DISTRACT AND DISABLE PROGRAM 34 -- SATURDAY 21 DECEMBER 2013 -- 2PM EASTERN/11PM PLANET ABU TIME

Once there was a boy named Glue. He had a lot of thoughts in his head and they lead him to decide that there was not enough room for the good and the bad to exist side by side. So he decided to build some equipment that would allow him to make strange noises. As he grew and experimented with these machines he discovered that there were messages embedded within the noises. But the messages were all coded and it was unclear whether or not they were intended for him, if he had created them, or if he should try to engage them...

Long story short, one day, the Others revealed themselves to him in the middle of the night. Woke him right up and out of bed. There were several days that went missing and he only remembers suddenly being able to understand the messages. And it is now his understanding that some of you might also understand them. And this is the story of how Glue got into the entertainment business and also the story of why he is forced to entertain you from Planet Abu. So go on and get distracted and disabled this Saturday. Listen live or later via the archive.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE PROGRAM 33 -- SAT 16 NOVEMBER -- 2PM EST/1PM CST/11PM PLANET ABU TIME

If you think you know your planet, just try tapping into the energysphere wherever you are and listen. You may even begin to see things or have recurring dreams. I keep having a recurring dream about getting into fighting shape. Why? Am I in danger? Do I feel threatened? Why yes. All the time. Don't you? Anyway, I am not the kind of radio host who can just get on a treadmill. I like to feel like I'm doing something productive or at least fun. That is why I  highly recommend an exercise program that features electronic music. It is a real motivator. The Others know that we all need a little motivation now and then. Speaking of which, you should tune in to WGXC this Saturday 16 November at 2pm Eastern/1pm central (11pm Planet Abu Time) for the latest installment of the Distract and Disable Program. I think you will find it very inspirational. If not, well, you probably aren't listening hard enough. And don't forget the WGXC archives. There you can go back and piece all this madness together. Eventually it will all make sense.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE PROGRAM 32 -- SAT 19 OCTOBER -- 2PM EST/1PM CST/10PM PLANET ABU TIME

Hello again. Glue Banta here telepathically writing to you from Planet Abu. Seems that ingesting all that gold was not such a bad idea afterall. I can now see many things at once, across time, forward and back, but I still can't figure out how to program my VCR to record something in the past. Maybe that requires being far enough away from the old blue marble so as to have arrived prior to a TV signal from Earth. Then all I would need is a receiver and a VCR deck and a tape or two. Looks like I might be able to catch that missing season of Magnum PI after all. Anyway, tune in to WGXC this Saturday the 19th to hear episode 32 where I share with you, the listeners, some new discoveries on Planet Abu. And as always, there are the archives if you simply do not like new things.

GLUE RETURNS FOR DISTRACT AND DISABLE 31 -- SAT 21 SEPTEMBER 2013, 2PM E/1PM C/10PM PLANET ABU TIME

This is not a margarine commercial, and the Others are not fooling around. If they say lock the host inside a radio you do it. If they say "get thee to Planet Abu," you say, "where's the spaceship?" Or, you might say, "where's the teleportation machine?" Or you might just curl up in a ball and cry. I said "where's the teleportation machine," they laughed and pointed me to the spaceship. So here I am, on Planet Abu. It is a strange place to say the least, not in a bad way, but in an uncanny way, like I've been here before. There is no internet, but I feel like I am typing in my mind, so perhaps you are reading this on a screen somewhere. Perhaps you can imagine typing a message in your mind that I can see on a screen too. Let's all try shall we.....

In any case, I am getting the feeling that you can go where you used to go to hear what it is I am broadcasting—over very large loudspeakers—here on Planet Abu. Try it to hear it. Something else tells me that the title of of this imaginary post might give you a good idea of when to do this. Otherwise, you can live in the past through an ever-growing archive. What's the worse thing that could happen?

DISTRACT AND DISABLE 30 -- Saturday 17 August -- 2pm EDT/1PM CDT

There's definitely something amiss when you push on a wall and it opens into a room, then the wall shuts behind you and you find yourself in complete darkness except of course for the boom box that you were carrying with you that has a fresh set of C batteries and you press play. This is when it gets really weird because you don't remember carrying the boom box into the room, nor do you remember entering the room. So where are you? Perhaps inside the radio. Yes, that must be it, inside the radio. Or maybe inside a computer. No. It's too smelly to be inside a computer. Definitely a radio. Some of you know what I'm talking about. Others, well...
So tune in this Saturday 17 August at 2pm EDT/1pm CDT to WGXC for the Distract and Disable Program. If you regret it, you've only got yourself to blame.
Also, if none of this makes any sense, then you are probably sane and would do well to start at the beginning which you can access through the fantastic WGXC archives.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE -- JUNE AND JULY SHOWS

OK, so you got so distracted that you couldn't even find the June and July episodes of The Distract and Disable Program. Try not to blame yourself too much. It is summer after all, and it is a fact that tanning your brain is a serious opiate. So, take heart now that the summer is coming to a close and you are already thinking about that new sweater you want to buy. Just remember to visit the WGXC archive page to give D&D episodes 28 and 29 a listen before you head to the mall. In fact, visiting this archive of episodes might make you want to take up the knitting of your own sweaters or hats just so you can stay tuned in. You'll thank me later, perhaps with a nice knitted scarf.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE #27 -- TODAY -- WGXC -- 1PM EDT/12PM CDT

All I can say is that 27 is a great number. I could list all the virtues of this thing, but that might be boring. Let's just say that if you listen to the program, you won't even need to know why the number is so great. So do it. Don't break the spell. Tune in. http://www.wgxc.org/.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE 26 -- SATURDAY 20 APRIL -- 2PM EDT/1PMCDT -- WGXC!

Dear Listener:
Please be careful with, this, the latest episode of The Distract and Disable Program. It contains sounds that could potentially send you spinning off on to the astral plane, or, at least that's what Glue seems to think (as evidenced from the notes I found with a tape that I will be playing this month.) It really makes me wonder if perhaps Glue, rather than being taken away by the others (which is what by all appearances happened), is actually just taking an extended vacation on the astral plane. I hear there are good resorts there, and they're free once you levitate over the fence to get in. You just have to watch out for the menacers, star travelers, and ghosts. But hey, if you know what you are doing, you can even order room service!

So please do tune to WGXC this Saturday 20 April at 2pm EDT/1pm CDT to see where this show takes you. And, as always, you can check the archives for previous shows and playlists. Remember, when on the astral plane, you can always just think of your mortal body in order to climb back in -- won't even leave a mark.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE 25 -- SATURDAY 16 MARCH -- 2PM EDT/1PMCDT

The snow has thawed and it's time to remember where you buried those nuts. So if you can't find 'em, then have some popcorn instead. But seriously, you are gonna need the fuel for this episode. There's lots to play along with, and plenty of nice groovy sounds to make you feel alright. Just remember to breathe. So tune in to WGXC this Saturday 16 March at 2pm EDT/1PMCDT for the Distract and Disable Program 25.

DISTRACT AND DISABLE 24 ON WGXC -- SATURDAY 16 FEBRUARY -- 2PM EST/1PM CST

Ok, so maybe this pizza is a couple of days late, but who says you can't extend Valentine's day into the weekend? Anyway, this is a love-pizza-to-me to celebrate TWO WHOLE YEARS OF DISTRACT AND DISABLE! Wow, we've sure been through a lot together, what with all the paranoia and Glue going missing and all. Well, let's just say that it's a good thing that the meds are working. And by meds I mean that the show goes on distracting and disabling! Tune in this Saturday at 2pm EST/1PM CST to WGXC and numb yourself with a little synth-blast-o-funky-easy-listening. And don't forget the archives—23 hours of disabling distraction at your fingertips. I know, you can't thank me enough! //JF

DISTRACT AND DISABLE 23 -- SATURDAY, JAN. 19 -- 2PM EST/1PM CST

2013, eh? As Barry Manilow once famously sang, "Looks like we made it!" I for one knew we would. Let's just say that I had inside information. And, what this all means is that there's more, yes more, Distract and Disable for your head in 2013. A little numerology...the first show in 2013...01 and 23...you see where I'm headed here? If not, then the only solution for you is to tune in to WGXC this Saturday the 19th at 2pm EST/1pm CST. You will hear more Glue Banta tapes -- some big-ass EMU bliss + funky easy-listening German organ hits, Scorpions karaoke, some Sly and Robbie film soundtrack work and other things you will be confused as to why you really like them. And as always, you can visit the WGXC archive to relive the bliss of the previous 22 shows.
